Four million visitors, three new parks, a new brand identity and website – Metroparks of the Toledo area has enjoyed a lot of success and positive publicity in the last year. But in the first quarter of 2016, the regional government agency was also in the news for another reason: deer.

With an overpopulation of white-tailed deer threatening the sustainability of important natural areas, the park system adopted a more aggressive wildlife management strategy that included thinning the burgeoning herd in two popular parks.

Scott Carpenter, director of public relations for the 12,000-acre park system, will discuss the communications strategy and results in a case study: “The Deer PRoblem.”

Join the Northwest Ohio Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America at the Toledo Lucas County Public Library Main Library Friday, May 20. Registration and lunch begin at 11:30 AM with the program beginning promptly at noon. The cost is $20 for PRSA members, $30 for guests, $12 for students. RSVP to nwohioprsa@gmail.com.
